Scotsure celebrates 40 years in business

Scotsure was formed in 1982 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Scottish Motor Trade Association, to provide a warranty service to garages selling new and used vehicles.

From 1982-1991, Scotsure operated successfully with all administration and sales activity undertaken from the SMTA headquarters in Edinburgh with General Accident underwriting the business.

The next step for Scotsure was to underwrite all policies itself as an insurance company, to ensure that any profit generated was retained by SMTA/Scotsure and reinvested to maintain and promote the motor industry in Scotland. In March 1991, Scotsure Insurance Company Ltd, received approval from the Department of Trade and Industry to carry out class 16 (Mechanical Breakdown) insurance activities. The nine-year experience of the former company in controlling and handling claims was a necessary and valuable first step.

In mid-1997, Scotsure formed an alliance with Car Care Plan to provide the sales and marketing support for the Scotsure business throughout Scotland. This gave both companies, working together, a platform to develop the business. In March 2005 Scotsure and CCP amicably agreed to terminate the existing agreement from October 2005 and Scotsure employed its own sales and marketing force in Scotland once again.

In 2003, SMTA and Scotsure moved offices to South Queensferry, on the outskirts of Edinburgh and as a result of the business expansion and a partnership with Cardif Pinnacle who then took on our underwriting from April 2009.

In 2014 our underwriting was now administered by MICL Amtrust to strengthen and expand our portfolio and to this day MICL (Car Care Plan) continue to underwrite all Scotsure warranties.

Throughout this 40-year period of continual development Scotsure has never forgotten its roots and has always specialised in the used car warranty market. This concept continues to underpin our success today.

Operating out of the SMTA offices in South Queensferry, Scotsure provides a full warranty administration and claims handling service to over 9,500 vehicle owners per annum.
