This month we turn the spotlight on an another of this year’s inspiring panel – Julie Viljoen, Aftersales Performance Manager at Toyota (GB).
We are delighted to announce Julie Viljoen as a distinguished panellist for this year’s Females in Focus event, hosted by the Scottish Motor Trade Association. Taking place on Friday, 20th September 2024, at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow, this event celebrates women’s achievements and contributions in the motor trade industry.
Julie Viljoen brings over two decades of invaluable experience in the automotive sector, having navigated various roles from apprentice service advisor to aftersales director. Her career has been defined by resilience and perseverance in overcoming significant challenges and stereotypes that women often face in aftersales roles. Julie has firsthand experience of addressing prejudices that undermine women’s capabilities in technical fields and the unfair assumptions regarding their commitment and abilities due to family responsibilities.
Reflecting on her journey, Julie notes, “As a woman, you can face many prejudices in the motor trade, especially within aftersales.” She has encountered scepticism about her technical understanding and even inquiries about her future plans for motherhood during job interviews. Despite these obstacles, Julie’s dedication to her work has been unwavering. She has consistently prioritised her team’s well-being and work-life balance, setting an admirable example of leadership and empathy in the industry.
Julie found a supportive environment at Toyota (GB), where her abilities were recognised and valued without judgment regarding her personal life. “At Toyota (GB), I found a culture that allows me to excel professionally while also embracing my role as a mother,” she reflects. “This inclusive approach has been instrumental in my career growth.”
Julie Viljoen will bring her wealth of experience and insights to the Females in Focus panel, where she will engage with the audience, sharing perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in the motor trade industry. Her presence promises to enrich discussions on diversity, leadership, and the evolving role of women in automotive careers.
Join us for this inspiring event and participate in the conversation with Julie Viljoen and other esteemed panellists as we celebrate and empower women in the motor trade industry.
