On Friday 19th August 2022, SMTA held it’s second ‘Females in Focus’ lunch-time event which was held at the stunning Glasgow Grand Central Hotel. The SMTA is passionate about highlighting the careers available in the motor trade, help to address the imbalances and attract new talent in all areas of the motor trade. The motor trade is a very diverse industry, and we need to seriously look at how we market our opportunities available to get many more females interested in a career in this industry.
The event was a great success, and we are so grateful to our panel and would like to say a huge thank you to; Louise Aitken-Walker MBE, World Rally Champion, Recipient of the Segrave Trophy, Cat Treanor, Account Manager at Electude, Cat is very passionate about encouraging diversity in the automotive industry and regularly presents at industry events worldwide to showcase the importance of equality in the trade and Tori-Leigh Adams a fully qualified Vehicle Technician trying to make a difference in the Scottish motor industry (you can read more about Tori-Leigh on
in our ‘Mind the Gap’ feature). It was truly a pleasure to listen to these amazing women and hear their stories of success and achievements in the motor trade. We also awarded our second ‘Nan Lindsay Award’ to Catherine Kelly of Senior Vice President Client Service Leader at Marsh Commercial who started her career in 1985 with Mercantile Credit as an Account Manager responsible for a portfolio of motor dealers and went on to lead a successful sales team sharing some of her knowledge and expertise to others and enjoying future success within the Finance motor industry.
Now with Marsh Commercial who is a global insurance broker, different industry but very similar and Catherine believes that whilst the product is different it is still about the clients, the service and the right attitude! Sadly, Catherine couldn’t be there in person to accept her award so we will be presenting it to her at our upcoming Annual Dinner on 27th October at the Hilton Glasgow.
